I've always loved wharncliffes, and think it may soon be time to pick up a Kiwi, and the stag version has been calling. However, I am kind of picky with stag quality. So that being said, could I get pictures of actual models you fine folk may have so I can see if I am comfortable with the variation that is used. For example, I do not like Case stag, so would need to see the exact knife I'm buying, while I feel comfortable buying GEC stag unseen.

Thanks all!

Ah, I saw variation and ran off to snap some pictures of my mother of pearl/abalone variation with VG-10 steel.
Also snapped a photo of it in my hand for a size demo. If you still want to see them they're all ready to post.

I need some reading comprehension lessons I guess.

Given the cost of the Stag Kiwi slipjoints, they weren't bad, but the stag quality and thickness on them varied greatly from knife to knife, and often from side to side on a given knife. Here are a couple examples...

Thanks! Barman, you never know how pics may sway me to another handle choice, and in hand is always good! Deacon- thank you very much, those are the views I was looking for. I am used to some curve on the backside of some traditionals, it can be used to good effect, but don't care for overly thick scales either. Maybe I can see if the vendors are willing to look at specific examples first. The bottom knife in the picture looks good!

Does anybody know what species of stag it is?

More pics are always welcome!

No, but if I had to guess, I'd say it's probably one of the several species of red deer that are native to China. I say that because the Kiwi slipjoints are made there and the texture of the scales looks a lot more like the European red deer that Boker uses on their knives than like most of the Sambar stag I've seen.

Here's a shot of one of the two above with a locking Kiwi that I had re-scaled by Santa Fe Stoneworks with Sambar stag I purchased at a knife show and later had engraved by David Clevinger, and one of both sides of the locking one...

I love Kiwis, but that Sambar one is my special favorite. It finds its way into my pocket more often than any of the others.
