Gday gentleman,

Working through my stag knife with the maker and were deciding on liner material. It will be a Barlow with an integral bolster so the choice will feature on the knife.

Because the blade will be A2 he’s suggested nickel silver bolsters to patina alongside the blade. I like the idea but I was also tossing up the idea of copper liners for something different.

Does anyone have an example of a stag and copper traditional knife? I’d like to see the combination before going that route.

Sage advice from Pàdruig Pàdruig . Verdant stag is a real thing.

Hold on! Some people LIKE verdigris on their knives.....gives character they say (and smell...) but then, some people relish easting kidney & liver:poop:

The thing about brass-bleed (verdigris) is that it's usually very uneven too, appearing in clots rather than evenly. If I were to commission light bone or Stag I'd want stainless or all steel liners on a knife. I don't know how Copper will behave- on roofs it goes a nice even green colour (after some decades...) but on a knife not sure. It is softer than brass so it might not wear so efficiently against moving steel parts ?
