stag scales,pours and grime

I just finished cutting and shaping some stag handle scales and I am collecting dirt and ugly discoloration in the pours. How can I clean them up and prevent this from happening again ? The scales are sized, so taking off more material would be a bummer. Any kind of help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
