stag scales problem

hi, im new to the forums,
anyway, i was hoping you guys could help me out with something, ive gotten hold of some stag antler and ive been useing it for knife handles.... but i have a problem with it, on the small handles and the pocket knives it seems to warp, after a few weks it pops right off or cracks.....
anyway to stabilse the stag???

Welcome to blade forums, Hope you enjoy this as much as I do. The first question I have is how old is the stag? I never use new stag, only pieces that have aged for at least a year or so. Stag will shrink over time, that's why I don't use the fresh pieces. I've never used stablised stag, but I have heard of it, maybe someone will have more info on that for both of us. Hope this helps a little. Let us know how it comes out.

Pre-cut the stag into slabs and place them in a warm spot. This will allow the stag to settle somewhat. You can sand out any warpage before installing the scales.
