So my boss came to me the other day, knowing that I was interested in traditional pocket knives, and said that he'd pulled out a knife that had belonged to his dad. It was a Schrade Uncle Henry trapper, and to say it was beat up would be an understatement. Both blades had huge dings in their edges, the tip had been broken off of the clip blade, and it looks like someone had tried to clean the blades off with a Dremel. The springs sit way down into the liners, nowhere near flush. Worst of all, while the lockup on both blades is pretty loose, the clip is ridiculously so. The amount of side-to-side blade play on it is crazy.

Here are a couple pics of the knife:

And a short video showing the blade play on the clip:

I've taken care of the edges, sharpened out the dings (which took a while... first time I've wished that I'd bought a Coarse DMT in addition to the Fine and Extra Fine), and cleaned it up as best I could for him, but there's no fixing what's wrong with this knife.

So, with Christmas coming up, I thought maybe I'd see if I could find a similar-but-better version of this knife to buy for my boss. Obviously the covers on this one are imitation stag (and a poor imitation at that), so I'd like to get him something with actual stag covers. He also mentioned to me (in looking at and discussing various knives that I've carried and shown him) that he likes a smaller size (like that of my #15 Farm Boy, 3.5" closed) more than the slightly larger size of the Uncle Henry trapper (at right about 4" closed).

So I'm looking for a 3.5" closed or shorter trapper with stag covers that looks at least somewhat similar to the knife above. The Case Genuine Stag Mini Trapper (pictured below) seems to fit the bill almost perfectly, but I thought I'd bring this to the porch and see if you guys had any other suggestions.
