Okay this is probably a dumb question, however, what is the difference between Burnt Stag and Genuine Stag? For example, GEC sells knives with both; yet they look the same to my untrained eye. Is it merely that genuine stag is not flamed? I don't know. Any experts out there?

Burnt stag bone is bone that has been jigged and burned to look like stag. The genuine stag is well...genuine stag.

Gotta say I think GEC does a great job with their burnt stag bone.

Some manufacturers burn stag too. They use the pieces that aren't the best and add color by burning. Case does this on some knives. I'm not sure about GEC.

GEC burnt stag is "flamed" stag, not bone. I have seen it demonstrated to me and promptly packaged before my eyes. I was confused on this question myself so I specifically inquired during a tour of the factory.

Can you burn or torch stag yourself? I've got a CASE Mini Copperlock that although thick is pitifully pale....wouldn't flaming it mess up the whole knife?!

GEC certainly has some mega stag on offer.
