Mike, was it you that wrote about this not long ago? I used a little steel wool on a staglon handle, to remove the scratches, then found that by simply rubbing it with my hands, the handle started looking better.

Any other hints?

Yes, you can replenish the oil of the plastics with skin oil, as you are doing, though more is usually found on the side of the nose (outside) or forehead. I haven't tried synthetic oils, but a miscible oil like Armor-all or Son-of-a -gun might help. I think I also mentioned burnishing, or compressing the surface with a thumbnail, but it occurs to me that a smooth piece of bone might work even better. Don't ladies use a smooth rounded plastic tool to work on their cuticles? That might work also. I had one UH that had seen a lot of field service and most of the accent color was gone from the Staglon. I touched it up with leather shoe sole dressing dye.

I used the the little buffing wheel on my dremil moto tool and I think it did a pretty good job. You have to be carefull and use low speed or you can really remove some material.View attachment 49717

I've noticed that daily carrying a knife keeps the scales more polished looking also.

I guess it goes back to the basics. Give something love and attention and it will reward you. Carry your knife daily, and it will return the love. It is a part of you. Treat it as such.
