I've seen the 1 possibly 2 at Badmojo. I'm assuming it's a DCBB on 1 and a satin finish on 1. Were there many made? The 1-2 at Badmojo are the only ones I've ever seen. All other ones have had the black finish, smooth or crinkle. Are there any other pictures out there?

I've never seen any others, but I sure would like to. I love short, chubby blades like that.

I've seen a handful but they are usually proto's or variants. I don't think they were ever offered in a satin or bead blast (at that time)

:D:D

here's one, a fatty 5/16th, awesome knife

Yep, thats the one I saw. NO SOLICITATIONS FOR SALES ON THIS FORUM....Mike :)

Thanks for the replies.

This may be a stupid question but is DCBB finish a Busse trademarked finish? I mean are there other companies or custom knifemakers that use this finish or people who will apply this finish to knives that you already have?

UMMMMM Kit Carson does pretty much the same thing, well, with the ceramic beads anyway. I really doubt that it's patented as it's a technique or process that anyone can do if they want to invest the time and effort. Most won't.

Satin finish a blade then blast it with very expensive ceramic media? Neither process is cheap (I've inquired about the media), but to combine the two? I've never seen it offered elsewhere.

here's one of several that i have done at home. i use a double cut method also.

first i blast with silica sand (masonary center) in several directions to remove the fine grinding lines. this will cut the grinding lines totally out. i shoot at 100lbs pressure.

second i shoot the target with 120 sieve glass beads straight on using around 40lbs pressure. this will peen and seal the surface.

i get great results and it will look good imho.

i have never taken a knife to the satin stage before shooting, busse does this with all his dblcut knives.... the extra step to get his nice finish.

the pics below were blasted by me over a busse satin finish. if you like the dblcut finish i would suggest you order it that way from the factory

 Skunk that is an awesome job you did on that knife! Yeah I too think the best thing to do is order it from Busse with the DCBB finish. I have a couple of Busse's with the black crinkle finish that I would like to have redone with the DCBB finish. I thought I read a post by Jerry saying that they no longer change finishes on knives. Am I right? I've been tinkering with the Idea of trying to find someone who would do it for me.

Soooo, what do you charge? :D :D

But seriously, What do you charge?

Wow, nice knife. Straight Handle Steel Heart 5/16" ? or is it a BM? hmmmm

Thanks Idaho for explaining the DC method. And to think... I didn't even have to ask!

thanks guys, i bought this knife used, it was coated with the smooth coating, i got my blaster at sears and i already had a 20 gal compressor. i just did it and it came out well. you can still see the infi "roll marks" on the choil where it was not ground to a satin finish.

i removed the handles on this one (which is not necessary as you can just blast them too) but you had better know how to do it right or you will loose the screws.

Ok I got my hands on a blaster and some silica sand. Where do you buy 120 sieve glass beads?

You can go to HarborFreight.com

They sell abrasive material for blasters. I'm not sure they have 120 but they do have glass beads.

BTW... what type of blaster did you get?

I borrowed one from a friend, it came from Sears. All it said on the side was 60lbs pressure. It was better than the one I had, none. I drove all over the place looking for 120 sieve glass beads. I found nothing. I stopped at Lowes and asked some guy behind the counter. "We don't have anything like that but theres a place down the street, maybe they can guide you some where". I went there and rang the doorbell. I gave him Skunk's recipe and told him what I needed. His eyebrow raised up and then he said follow me. He took the knife and put it in the blasting box/booth and hit it with the sand then hit it with glass. I think I scared him a little when I yelled out YOWZA!!! :D
