There are some dark spots forming on the blade of my s30v shaman. It is my daily for the most part but this just came about a day or so ago. I clean my knives after use with edci formula. None of my other knives have this going on and they are mostly m4 tool steel. Pic below. Any ideas?

Have you tried cleaning it with anything aside form EDCI?

Could just be an accumulation of something and not the steel discoloring. Isopropyl Alcohol is a pretty good solvent.

I had not tried anything else until you mentioned it as I didn’t want to make it worse if it were a staining problem. I didn’t have any isopropyl on hand but did have some never dull cloth. Applied that and it came right off, so thank you for the idea of using something other than the edci, it has been my go to for a long time and I especially like the new formula they put out, but lesson learned. Thank you for the insight and info it is much appreciated.

Perfect outcome, glad it was a simple fix. 👍

Been test driving some EDCI on a few non stainless blades. Seems like a good rust preventative, doubt it will replace the 99% Isopropyl alcohol I use for cleaning anytime soon.
