Stainless Backspacers on a BM710D2

One of the first Benchmades I bought was a BM710D2. I've had and carried this knife for 4 years. This is my favorite knife, even more than my Sebenza. I never really cared that the backspacer was plastic, but I wanted to add something to it, so I removed the plastic backspacer and made stainless spacers to replace it. The blade would hit on the original backspacer as I've heard several other 710 owners report (I don't know if this was intentional, but the plastic had a big divot cut into it), so I had cut flats on the stainless spacers to prevent the blade from contacting them. The thumbstuds now rest on the liner when the blade is closed. I also polished up the clip.

Nice.

What is the loss in handle bending strength?

My 710 has the barrel spacer replacements also and if you squeeze the handles really hard they flex a little bit, but this is one of my favorite EDC's and I have yet to have a problem since it was upgraded...

It lightens the whole knife up, and makes the knife a lot easier to keep clean.

I can't notice a single bit of handle flex. Steel liners and G-10 are very strong, I don't worry about strength at all.

Where do you get the barrel spacers? and if your making them anyone want to make some extras to sell?

Very nice! What width were the spacers? I've been entertaining the idea of doing the exact opposite; making a fileworked backspacer out of aluminum.
