Hey guys I saw a couple of stainless steel case sodbusters today for about 15 dollars. Would it be worth it even though they are stainless?

Sure, they're worth it. It's their Tru-Sharp surgical steel, reportedly pretty good. New ones sell for $22-25 through SMKW.

would you say they compare to carbon?

No. Different, as far as putting a good edge on. I'm a big fan of carbon blades, I think they're easier to put an edge on. But, I have never failed to put a good edge on a stainless blade. I think they require a little more work, but not enough to discourage me from using one, and they're worth it. I sharpen free-hand on a wide variety of stones, some of them are rocks. Some work better than others on different steels, carbon or stainless.
