Could I just walk into one of those mall kiosks or small shops that engrave stuff on Zippos and cut keys, and have them put something nice on the handle of my stainless Spydie?

A cute logo or design could make sheeple feel warm and fuzzy...;)

Could use your advice, before I go off and risk a nice knife.

I'm not sure whether those engraving machines could do anything more than their own style of letters.

That's how I had my Hunter engraved years ago.

Calyth is correct, they have set designs (lots of them though) and set fonts. So you can have anything you want as far as motto or phrase in any number of styles.

If it's a picture you're after, there are fewer choices, but "cute" you can probably find. Go take a look through their book.

I talked to a friend that works at an engraving place about doing my ss endura. She said that it can take a while because they have to engrave over 2-3 times to make the details clear enough. Make sure the guy whose doing the engraving knows what their doing because one slip, and they'll owe you a new knife.

The bits on their engraving tools aren't always hard enough to do a great job. The handle should be ok in my best estimations but the blade can sometimes give them a tough time.

I would rather take it to a custom engraver. I'm sure you can find one in the yellow pages in your area.

My gf had the blade of a BM 350 done for me in the mall and the engraving is so light that you can barely see it unless you hold it at an angle. Even the guy there said that the steel was problematic 'cos it was too hard.

Yes, the engraving shop at the mall does a pretty good job, however, you must tell the person have the machine make two or three passes.

I had a SS Dragonfly engraved with a friends initialls, looked really nice with a Gothic typeface and the friend loved it.

I checked into laser engraving a while back as I wanted to have my SS Police PE engraved. I found a company up north that would engrave whatever I wanted for $40. I don't trust those places in the mall as I has my initials engraved in my Seiko watch band and you can hardly see it. I wish I would have kept the companies site in my favorites but I didn't. I also didn't have the knife engraved because I just can't decide if I want to do it now or wait until I retire in a little less than three years.

You could do a search for laser engraving and find a place as I did.

My neighbour will do mine for me... $30, I deliver to his door, and pickup in a few days.

I have a small wooden box he did last year, and it's nice detail. Wolfhead on a pine box, the head is 3" x 3", and he actaully did seperate "fur" lines.

Just thinking of what I want on my 'Fly before I take it to him. Might even get a picture of a dragonfly on it, make it an art piece to attract looks.
