Hello all, looking to see what the best way is to remove this discoloration from the heat treatment of this AEBL stainless. I do have some texturing along the flats of the knife I'd rather not sand away if possible. Didn't know if buffing wheel or scotchbrite wheel would be best.

Thanks!

who did that heat treat looks like the torched the spine to straighten. best way i woudl think woudl be bead blasting then scotch brite cause im not sure a buffer will get down into the nooks

Sent it to Peter's. That is what I was thinking. I'll try the bead blast and scotchbrite belt and see what that does to it.

I could tell you that was a Peter's HT from the photo. They torch straighten. Many folks have gone to other HTers because of the issue.
The colored places are soft spots.

The only thing you can do is sand until clean metal and finish as normal. You will have to leave the blade at a satin finish, as polishing the surface will show the difference in hardness.

I only ever sent two blades to Peter's because they were S90V. But I was warned before I sent them so I specifically requested they DO NOT STRAIGHTEN THE BLADES!
