Stainless heat treat tip.

I used to have a big problem with crud building up on my stainless blades during heat treat. I'd clean them well and put a small slip of paper in the pack and press the foil tight around the blade and fold the edges three times and get as much air out as possible but they'd still come out with scale on them.
I don't have that problem at all anymore!
I started cleaning the blade and the inside of the foil wrap with alcohol soaked toilet paper. I give it enough time to dry but I don't touch the blade bare handed after cleanup and I don't wipe away the tiny bits of lint the toilet paper leaves behind. Evidently this is just enough fuel to burn the oxygen in the packet up and the blade comes out slick as it went in. At worse it might have some colors on it but those wipe away with 400 or 500 grit paper or the buffer. I was really suprised with the results, and happy.
It sure is great to end up with clean blades that don't need regrinding after heat treat!
Just thought I'd pass this along.
I'm sure other folks already knew about it but there's probably some that don't.
Take care!!
Michael
