I've recentley been given a bunch of stainless blanks. Unfotunately the person who gave them to me did not know what kind of stainless they where. Is there anyway to find this out? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Dave

If there marked yes . If not well um maybe.
Take them to your local scrap yard. Ask if they have the equiptment to check them some do some dont . Might cost you a few bucks ..

If the person who gave them to you knew there source, you might be able to find out from the original maker or maybe their catalogue. For expamle, certain of Bob Engnath blanks were generally made in 440-C others in ATS-34. He indicated in the catalogue which were which. Good luck!

Just found out that he got them from a local steel co., Gunnert Steel. Gonna try and get over there Mon. to see if I can talk to somebody. These were not knife blanks, just 1/8x2x12" blanks of stainless. Thanks for the input from all y'all. I'll let you know what I come up with.
Dave
