I know a lot of people carry the stainless nalgene now as you can boil water in it etc. I was on the lookout for a couple and ordered today since they are half price. Is single layer steel still safe to put in the fire?

after you remove the lid.

Thanks! Now I have very reliable drinking containers.

My 10 year old Nalgene bottle is awesome but it's scratched to crap and will leak if I drop it a couple more times

Actually, 50% off of Nalgene's MSRP isn't that good a deal. If you have a Dick's Sporting Goods they are usually available for around $10. If you have a Boy Scout shop in the area they have the 40 oz. Standard for $14.
 
I sent everyone a pm as well. I would look at the aforementioned site, put october where the code goes. 13 bucks with free shipping is a pretty good deal. Might be a couple dollars then Dicks but everything is on sale, not just bottles.
