MANY years ago (circa 92) I was in France and in a shooting magazine saw an add for various sized Opinels with rubber (Kraton?) handles and stainless blades. (No I'm serious - remember it well)

Where these ever mass marketed?I've never seen them sale anywhere.

The Twistmaster handle is Zytel.

I never saw an Opinel with a non-wood handle, but I "wood"n't be surprised if they made them. They use a variety of woods and I've seen them with designs engraved and with aftermarket carving.

I read about those somewhere, but can´t remember where, there was a picture and a comment, If I remember correctly it said that they were plastic handles (ABS I believe) textured to look like carbon fiber.

There are not production Opinel knives without wood handle. But all the sizes (except the N° 12) are available with stainless steel blade. ;)

I found it, it´s in page 89 of the book "Collectible Pocket Knives" by Dominique Pascal, originally published as "La Folie des Couteaux de Poche", 2001 by Flammarion, Paris.

It says:

"The handle of this Opinel looks as it were made of carbon fiber, but this is merely the decoration. In fact it is made of ABS plastic. The knife has a stainless blade and is finished with a safety ferrule in the distinctive Opinel shape.".

There is one model with camo handle, one with look like carbon fiber.
