Can anyone give me an idea of some of the stainless steels under consideration by RC for upcoming models? D2, S30v, sandvick steels?
thanks

If a 440C Izula is on the horizon, I may hold back and wait for it. Nearly all my EDC blades are 440C and rightfully so, I'd hate to break a set.

The older I get the more I love carbon steels. :)

I agree completely. I used to have lots of stainless steel knives. Now, not counting folders, I have one -- a Seal Pup. Just in case I have to do bushcraft while scuba diving in salt water:D. Seriously, I see little need for stainless steel knives for what I do. Carbon steel rules!

I'd rather see RAT offer another carbon steel, like A2, before it bothered with stainless. That's just my preference, I'm sure others will differ.

Agreed.
Or O1 like JK Handmade. I have one remaining 440C (Gerber Stag Handled Drop Point Wallowa) and can't GIVE the thing away. It lives in my truck now...
Don't waste your time w 440 RAT!

Same rule applies to my knives as well as my guns.
Shiny kimber and Colt 1911's is what I show my friends, but my enemies see the business end of my Glock.
So my stainless knives are for show and cutting cardboard. When I'm going to the woods, you'll see my 1095 RATs in my hand.

In salt water environs, I would probably favor a 440C RC-3 with good heat treat over my current RC-3 or Ontario Rat 3 in D-2.

I'm with you 'ol carbon dogs. The first Green River knife I got when I was 16 (8"beefskinner) was the sharpest thing I owned until a couple years ago. Still looking for a good carbon one handed folder...Jeff...

While I am a huge fan of having choices.....I'll be sticking with my 1095 Rat's.

440C done right (Benchmade seems to do the best I've seen) is a good steel, but I think it's better suited for a folding EDC type knife that doesn't see much prolonged or intense usage. For a working knife, give me a good flexible steel that will hold an edge long enough to complete the work I need done, then be easy enough to touch up quickly. 1095 is my perfect steel.
