Stainless RESCUE Model: Most Underappreciated, Most Overlooked

Here in the last 4 to 5 months I've been carrying a lost classic Spyder as my "companion blade". I'm speaking of a Spyder that very few of you newcomers ( last 5 years or less) even know ever existed. I'm speaking of the "Stainless Handled RESCUE model from the late 90s>> In the ATS-55 era to be exact.

Personally I think it was one of the Most Underappreciated and Most Overlooked Spyders ever. I can't tell you all how many absolutely brutal cutting jobs I've done with that tank of a Spyder. It may be thee most solid built Spyder I've ever owned and used. Why that model got overlooked really baffles me because I wouldn't sell either one of my Stainless RESCUE models or trade them for anything. It is even a much better sheepsfoot blade than the Classic MARINER model ( my first Spyder ever).

But we don't have to confine this thread to the Stainless RESCUE model alone>> even though I would like to hear from you guys who own and have also used one of them. No you can mention any past Spyderco model that you also feel is Underappreciated and Overlooked. And there actually have been quite a few that would fit that desription.

Those stainless RESCUE models are C-14 & C-45. It's as though they are hidden in plain view and when they were in the main line up for about 2 years overall. Also the Japan retailer who later made them available to the USA market ( G-Sakai) had them available till about 04 or 05. But I've never seen them in anything but ATS-55 blade steel even though one guy told me that the Japan retailer briefly had them available in VG-10.

Spyderco has had several really super high quality models that just never got good results on the sales charts for whatever reason and the Stainless RESCUE models are among the best. The Zowada and big C-54 Calypso models are two more super high quality units that got passed over on the sales charts unfortunately..

My very first Spyder I ever owned was a full Spyderedged, Stainless handled MARINER model with GIN-1 blade steel. I didn't trade it until I got my very first Stainless RESCUE model which I found to be significantly more rigid and that model also had more bulk which makes it much easier to work with when using a Spyderedge for rough work and really difficult materials to cut.

Again I can't understand why the Stainless RESCUE models literally got ignored and passed up. However the Stainless RESCUE model might have been the victim of being overshadowed by other models during that time period that were just so popular that they literally overshadowed the Stainless RESCUE.

It also could have been an issue of "marketing". The Stainless RESCUE model back then may have been "target marketed" to people like first responders, firemen, policemen ect,. But I can't help but believe that anyone who would test drive one of these models would love it just as much as I did at the time and still do today at this present time.

Looks like a awesome folder.

It truly is one of Spyderco's very best kept secrets. How this model kept from being one of the all time favorites in their main line up is beyond me. Bad Timing is about the only conclusion I can come up with because everyone without any exception that I've talked to that has owned and used a Stainless RESCUE model has just loved it.

It is so solid and rigid that you feel like it's indestructible when using it. Even it's predecessor the "MARINER" model is not nearly the folder that the Stainless RESCUE model is IMO.
