San mai damascus from 304/416 (both stainless steels) with a D2 core.
8 1/4" overall length, 3 3/8" cutting edge. 1/8" thickness.
Copper and stainless steel guard with leather spacers. Macassar ebony handle. Stainless steel and copper mokume buttcap with a leather spacer. A leather sheath will be made.

I call the resulting pattern from these steels combination, the "trasnochado" pattern.

Thanks for looking!

Phenomenal! I'm curious as to how hard it is to weld that stainless to the D2. I don't usually prefer the nessmuk style, but this one is great! Love the handle.

Ariel. Is that how you make the stainless damascus also? How big a pieces of paper for say a 1x1x6 billet. Thanks Jim

I really love that knife. Simply stunning. I love your work because you are so creative and keep making stuff that is out of the norm with simple methods. Do you uses ferric chloride for the etch and does that turn the D2 black. Or how are you turning the D2 black, Thanks again

Exact same method for D2 or stainless steels. The problem in welding is chromium, and D2 has already enough to require the stainless method of cannister and O2 reducer.

I typically use half of a sheet of kitchen roll paper soaked with kerosene. I made a ball of it and put it first in the cannister, then add the metal sheets and then weld it close.

D2 gets that black with the regular ferric chloride indeed. Nothing special about the etching.

On unrelated news, my local customer ran into some problems, so this one is going to be available when I make a sheath for it. If anyone wants it now, you get to pick the desired sheath :)
