I've been thinking of making some spiked bracelets, collars, whatever, but I can't really find very many places that sell the spikes; something like this, but at a better price than _that_. I guess I could _make_ spikes from rod stock, but that would be too much dang work.

60 cents each is expensive? Your time, and cost of materials might easily exceed that price.

Adding shipping (no hot topic around here), with the usual tacked-on handling fee, though, and it goes up to a bit over a buck each, which, yeah, I think is a bit much, all things considered.

...Tandy Leather Supply. Last time I looked, they stocked these, and they might be cheaper than the Terminally Hip Hot Topic.

;)

Ok. To my knowledge no one out there makes "stainless steel" spikes. There are 3 materials. Nickle plated aluminum, nickle plated brass, and carbon steel. Check e-bay for the best prices. Also be aware there are press fit and screw in types. Press fit usually means you will need a kick press to secure them to the leather. They come in 1/4" to 3" size. Get the leather wet before you dye it, it takes better that way.

If you use threaded spikes super glue or lok-tite the threads. Otherwise no matter how tight you crank the spikes down a couple of them will work loose and get lost. If you want a real nasty look try stainless drywall screws.

I'd go for the carbon steel. Let 'em get good and rusty, then wire brush the rust off. What you've basically got then is a kick-ass lookin' rust blueing.

BTW Hoplophile, where did you find the carbon steel spikes? Can't remember if you told me when we were on the subject.
