I have stainless Hinderer hardware that I would like to “blacken”.

Has anyone tried the stainless blackeners? Do blackeners affect the threads?

I’ve used ferric chloride to black wash blades before, but I think that might might affect the hardware threads.

Purchasing black hardware is not an option. They’re out of stock everywhere.

Thanks!

I’ve used Caswell stainless steel blackener gel and it has worked well. They sell a small kit of blackener gel and sealer. You can use a q tip to apply the blackener, wait a few minutes and rinse with water, then apply the sealer. There are a few YouTube videos showing it in action. It worked well for me.

Ferric chloride won't work on most or maybe any stainless steels. Some stainless steels can be blackened with a dilute solution of muriatic (hydrochloric) acid.
