Stainless Steel finish grit size

Hey Knife Nuts! I got a quick question on the finish grit size spyderco uses on their SS slab knives. My SS polliwog fell and mared the surface a bit. :(Would like to rub it out.

LOL I have thought of that route but I would like to keep it like the factory made it. Plus I think the value would be higher if it stays its original finish. The knife fell off my display and into other knives. The finish is not dented only marred slightly. but it is noticeable enough to make me want to fix it........
 
i've done my old Dragonfly a couple times now. Seems like around 400 grit gets it looking like new again. i lay a strip down on the table and drag the knife nice and straight across it.
 
With my Sog stainless japanese knives, 400 or 600 grit seems to work.
