I bought a used Roadhouse with a very late lock face. i know Emerson replaces lock faces as part of their warranty but i thought why don't they just used a good stainless steel for a lock bar? since we all know titanium is way softer the 154cm and emerson does not carbidize the lock face.

Does it affect the lock up?

Is there any blade play or lock slip?

Is the lock bar actually touching the opposite liner?

If the answers are no go ahead and use it and enjoy it. If yes then send it off to EKI and they will fix it right up. As for the material of construction, only the man himself can answer that.
If you are inclined, there are folks here that could carbidize the lock face but you will give up your warranty with EKI to do so.

When the original Emerson folding knives were made for use with the U.S. special forces, Mr Emerson designed the knives to be able to stand up to the wear and tear of an amphibious environment. The original knives had both liners made of titanium for this reason as titanuim will not rust. It's also the reason he uses nylatron washers, grease, G10, and stainless steel blades. As Mr Emersons designs evolved he decided to change things here and there, one of which was making the non-locking liner stainless steel but retaining the titanium lock side. As dr_fosg8 said, if the knife functions properly and the lockbar isn't touching the opposite liner you should be fine. I have a few Emersons with "late" lockup and I have had no issue with any of them failing on me.

I am in the camp of "A late lockup is a safe lockup"

FWIW I know Chris Reeve is in the same camp
