I'd like to get a ~32oz stainless steel water bottle. There seem to be several options now, Nalgene/Guyot, Kleen Kanteen, Pathfinder, etc... I've seen people use several different methods for boiling water in them, and I find the hanging above the fire vs. setting it in/near the fire to be most appealing. What methods are people using for this? I see this bottle hanger from Pathfinder: http://www.selfrelianceoutfitters.com/bottle-hanger/ But looks a little bulky. I've seen what looks like a thin stainless wire affixed, but didn't find much when search about the web for some reviews of this method.

What's everyone using? Bonus points for pics :D

THANKS.

Wire fishing leaders come in a number of sizes and end configurations. I used two to make a hanging/boiling lanyard for my stainless bottle.--KV

Can you post a pic? Never used fishing leaders and curious what you went with.

Dont have the bottle handy but any good tackle shop carries wire leaders in various sizes and lengths. Most with a clip swivel on the ends. I think I used 60lb test. A short one that was wound twice around the neck of the bottle tight enough that it wont slip over the neck. Then a longer one attached at both ends to the short one to make a loop that can be hung.

I use a gorge-hook approach. I have a length of light chain (standard Home Depot stuff) to which I attach a piece of coat-hanger wire. The wire is bent to have a small loop in the middle and sized to catch the shoulder of the bottle. It's attached to the chain with a split ring. I just tip the hanger wire into the bottle and wrap the chain around a tripod.

I have been using a clean kanteen for about 5 years and love it. I have the 18, 27, and 40 oz, the 40 gets the most use. Ive only boiled in it once, just took the top off and put it near the fire then fished it out with pliers.
