Does anyone have any experience with Stamascus knives? They've got some great designs; is their damascus good? I don't mean appearance, but toughness and edge-holding. How does it compare to carbon steels?

Ryan,

Kit Carson and Darrel Ralph both say that the Mike Norris Stainless Damascus is the best. He is an integral part of the Stamascus operation.

That's good enough for me.

By the way, have you seen Tim Flanagan's Mini-Apogee with the Norris Damascus?
Made me a believer!

Sure, I've heard of Norris damascus before... had no idea that he had anything to do with Stamascus before.

Good enough for me, too! So it isn't just pretty!

One more Stamascus question, if I could. Does anyone have experience with their linerlocks, made by Ed VanHoy, I believe?

I've got one on order. I was told that the average waiting period is from 3-6 months (no
instant gratification here). I ordered the model 17 with raindrop pattern blade. However I ordered it with raindrop Mokume bolsters indstead of damascus. I've seen some early postings and the reviews have been favorable.
They are very nice to deal with and I feel confident that I'll be pleased.

I have a question, what is the steel in the Stamascus? I am not opposed to any new
steel combo out but would like to know what I'm dealing with. As you can tell, I've been burned before. :>)
