I picked this up today while out running around.

I have made a few attempts within the forums search engine as well as Google and yesteryear. I was lead off in a few dead end directions to other sites looking for information or a direction regarding the marks.
I thought I had read a thread or post pertaining marks like or similar but I am having zero luck.
Any help or lead will be appreciated.
It weighs 2&1/4lbs on the 16" handle.
The bit is maybe 4"/5" across

Thanks for looking and any help

I think the 2 is probably referring to a standard broad hatchet size 2. This catalog shows broad hatchet sizes numbered from 1 to 8, and the number 2 broad hatchet has a weight of 1-3/4 pounds and a cut of 4-1/2 inches. Number 3 weighs 2-1/8 pounds with a cut of 5 inches.

As for the H stamp, perhaps it's the code to identify the manufacturer when a hardware distributor is contracting from different companies?

Thank you Steve Tall!
I too was thinking some hardware store ID or cataloging indicator for inventory...
You have given me a good lead to try to build from though, thank you again

maybe H- hewing 2- 2lbs .... I have seen weight mark in that place on germantown hatchet (if I remember correctly)

Interesting and thanks.
One of my dead end attempts had brought me to an auction of or a discussion about a Germantown tool.
I was also lead off to Hubbard(?) Tool.

It has a 5" bit
