Hi to everyone,

I´m new on this forum and from Scandinavia - Denmark to be more exact. I very much enjoy reading all the knife knowledgeable peoples posts in here :D

However I have failed to search and find any posts containing a problem resembling the below mentioned :(

Here goes: I just bought, what I thought was a Buck 112.

The knife was bought to replace a 10 year old Buck Protege as my primary hunting knife.

I was quite stunned when I saw the blade fitted. As the pictures below show, it appears that a 450 blade has been fitted. The sheath, box and bill says 112. To my knowledge the 450 has not been made with wood/brass either. Anyone has an opinion on this thing ?

Cheers

...Hi yarrel and welcome to the forum...That is indeed the incorrect blade for that frame. Someone obviously made the switch and sold it as we see it...( I swear I didn't do it... ...) ... Was the knife represented to be a 112???...If it was and I was looking for a 112 I would definitely be upset as you well must be. I'd contact the seller and, if he sold it as a 112, I'd ask for a full refund of monies sent. If you paid for it thru PayPal you could also dispute it as it was totally misrepresented. If he said it was "modified" you may have no recourse however...Sorry you had to pop in the forum under these circumstances...:(

Hi Yarrel,

I like that conversion; the drop point 450 in a 112 frame :). Send me a message and I will make a swap with you if you realy don't like it.

I like it too!
Does it close well? Could you post a pic of it closed please?
The 112 frame is alot nicer than the protege!

Hi to all of you,

Thank you for the quick replys.

I have no problem taking it back to the retailer, it is a large hunting/fishing shop in this country. I´m not sure who made the conversion, but it´s done very nice. There´s no play in the blade assembly what so ever, it closes perfectly and keeps closed whithout a hitch, bouncing open etc.

JB4570: Thanks for the offer, that´s very generous. I´ll think about it :p

I actualy like the style of the conversion as well, the drop point blade is very good for field work on deer.

Cheers

 ...yarrel...It's actually a very nice blade swap. I happen to have a couple of 'em somewhere around here as well...The only possible "downside" to it for you is that Buck's warranty won't follow that knife nor any of mine for that matter. As to it's usefulness...it's a lot tougher blade than the clip point version... :D

I really like it!
How does a large retailer sell something like that though? It couldnt be a factory error? Could it? I could see online or something but from a retailer?

That puzzles me too. I´ve no idea how it got there.

I´m sure they´ll exchange it - no probs, but I might keep it and add a 110 to the collection instead :p

Thats what I would do!!! Do they have any more of these 112 Proteges?
Or is it called a 450 Ranger :D

I guess you are right, it works great, looks great and I like it too - it´s a keeper.

I can check for more of them if you are interested - let me know !

Not one of mine either...I use 442 blades in my drop-point 112 conversions... ;)

(Mostly because I never heard of the 450)

Hi yarrel,

Please take a look for me; I'd like to have one. Well I think someone bought a new 112 and they returned the custom in it's place....why? because of the voided warranty issue is my guess??? Yarrel you have a unique custom and you should keep it!!!!

 My thoughts exactly... Maybe theres more :D

The plot thickens !

wh4f & jb4570 - I´ll swing by this week if I get the time and have a look for more

yarrel, if you should find a few more of those, please put me on the list of "takers"....maybe they received a case of them :D

I wonder if they ordered a bunch of them made up like that....

You drop point guys ,,,,:p lol

well i jest found this thread so i have 2 cents to add also
at the show i heard of some knives that were export only
overseas! this could be one of them!
it is possable even here i think to b e able to order like a lot of
say 100 in that configuration...
and i would take 1 please...

this will btt and hopefully Joe will comment on this...

Seems to me that we did some 112's with the 450 blade on purpose a while back. It may have been for export only to. Unless the knife has a unique number on the box lable, it may be impossible to research it in the computer. Do you still have the box?
BY the way, Welcome to the Forums!:)
