the thought just came into my head how many individual makers stamp one side of the blade with the steel type and/or if it would be a good idea.

thanks

Matt,

I etch my blades, but I like to mark the year and steel type on one side. Otherwise, even I forget what they are.

I started putting the steel type on the back side a couple of years ago just to help me keep things straight.

A number of the Maryland smiths stamp their name, the year and steel type on the back of the sheath.

I use D2 and O1 and need to stamp the blades because they are the same shape to tell them apart.

I stamp my name on one side of the ricasso and the steel type on the other side.

I started off doing it, & stopped (for some stupid reason  ). Every knife I make from now on gets material, # , & touchmark. IMHO, it just makes for a nicer, more professional looking package. Nowadays a vast majority of our customers are very educated about the materials we use and appreciate a permanent record on the piece, at least that is the feedback I'm getting

thanks alot every one that definatly helps a lot,

i guess i need to find a good area on my blades to stamp everything,

david, i really like the way you put the parks on the tang on the under side

thanks

Another thumbs up for david's info on the bottom of the tang. Doesn't interfere with the looks that way. On either/both sides of the ricasso looks nice too; I've seen serial numbers on the spine and thought it looked really tacky, but that's just me.
