Stan Shaw knives stolen from museum.

Just ran across this story.

H herder let me know about this the other night, terrible news :( I hope the knives can be recovered before the thieves dump/destroy/bury them, or they simply disappear

Press reports referred to a "well-planned job", but there was virtually no security at the museum, and numerous 'back door' entrances, with simple locks, which hadn't been changed for years. Stan Shaw used to regularly go into work very early in the morning, letting himself in through one such entrance, and there wasn't anyone on the site, or even an alarm to turn off

That’s terrible.

The thieves could melt the silver teapot for a few hundred dollars in silver, but the knive sculptures and exhibition knife will be pretty much impossible to sell. Sad. They’ll probably end up in a field somewhere. The museum should advertise a no questions asked return request/reward and maybe someone would take them up on it.

A shame that it happened, and that the museum hadn’t done more to protect such historic and irreplaceable items. Kelham Island was a highlight of my visit to Sheffield a few years back.
