A couple times I saw knives that were interesting and wanted to buy but some important info was missing in the ads. By the time I got a response from the buyer someone else already post "I'll take it".

My suggestion is to have a somewhat standard list of things to list in an ad and then have the buyer write any particulars on the bottom along with a picture.

ie.

  • model
  • condition
  • price
  • method of payment
  • shipping carrier

etc

Capitalization, spelling, and punctuation wouldn't hurt, either. But some of these guys seem to be selling to themselves, they leave out so much we need to know.

And then the seller wonders why his knife didn't sell. Another thing that has always puzzled me is how, especially with custom or unusual/rare knives, sellers do not post a photo of the knife. This is probably the quickest way to convey what they are selling and also precludes having a mile long list of questions about the knife from potential buyers.

The one I laugh at are the guys selling clothes that don't put the size -- shoes or jackets, usually.

Another point of contention is who gets it - the guy who posted "I'll take it", the guy who IM'd, or the guy who emailed... :grumpy:

The seller should say in the ad which method will win the knife...

And that brings up another sore point...the guy who posts "I'll take it, if..." :jerkit:

On another Forum, a seller posted many of a certain item and I was 3rd responder ("I'll take 5")...Plus I sent an IM with my email address...Didn't hear anything...Went back a day later; the seller had changed his post to read "Emails only"...I was pissed...

The seller chooses who to sell it to, there aren't any rules on this as I understand. You could say "I'll take it" five minutes after it is listed, and the seller could choose to sell it to someone who emails them a day later.

The problem with that is if Josh K wanted that knife I was selling fairly cheap, and were first responder (whichever means); you'd ignore the guy selling the same knife for $100 more...but when you found out I sold it to my good buddy Bastid, and the other knife was sold while you were waiting for confirmation on buying chickentrax's knife, you'd be pissed... :grumpy:

...Wouldn't you???... ;)

Me being pissed isn't the problem. It's not an auction and not bound by any rules. It's a private sale between individuals.
