Hi mates,

After reading bladeforums reviews I ended up ordering Kailash blades khukuri (standard size) .

Are there any other recommendations or is it the right choice ?

Kailash is absolutely the right choice, so well done there. I have a small selection of khuks, but my two best are from:

1. Kailash Blades (https://www.bladeforums.com/forums/kailash-blades.947/); and
2. Tora Blades.

I think Tora had some troubles here on BF over a decade ago, so they no longer have a presence here, but their knives are well made and are good for work.

Himalayan Imports (https://www.bladeforums.com/forums/himalayan-imports.739/) has an excellent reputation here on BF but unfortunately they are closing down operations. The proprietor, Yangdu Yangdu is currently selling off her remaining inventory so you can still pick up new pieces if you pay attention:

Cold Steel has historically made good khukuris and probably still does, but the prices seem to exceed those of genuine Nepalese knives.

I am sure there are plenty of other great makers, so keep looking. There have been other threads on this topic:

Can't find any catalog or shop website of Himalayan imports
Maybe this link should have been posted instead......

If you're looking for a standard traditional khukuri, I'd recommend going with the Service No. 1 Kukri — it's the classic model issued to Gurkha soldiers and a great all-rounder. It usually features a 10–11 inch blade, rat-tail or full tang depending on the version, and it's well-suited for both utility and ceremonial use. We forge them using 5160 carbon steel with proper heat treatment, so they’re fully functional and built to last. Let me know if you’re after a more field-ready version or something closer to the traditional style — happy to help.
