I finally picked one of these up in a hardware store after being intrigued for a long time.

It is half panga half spyderco civilian! I am really surprised at how acute the tip is..

It seems to be a uniquely South African term for this blade style, as googling "stanley cutlass" only brings up this model from Lasher tools.
 
That's a very interesting blade.
I cannot for the life of me imagine a practical purpose behind it's design, but I'm sure there is one.
Pretty much all of my machete needs are taken care of by various south American designs, who knows maybe If i had different chores for my machetes I'd imagine a use for one if these.

It is sold as a forestry tool, although the "billhook" side came unsharpened.
The tip is insane, it is actually framed out in the catalogue picture I posted.
I will upload another picture when I get the chance..
 
yeah, looks like a light weight machete-billhook combo. Interesting, but I'd want to be sure I didn't accidently strike any hard targets with that tip.
