I picked up a used Stanley hatchet off a guy for $10. I know nothing about it but figured its American made and at that price worth the gamble. Heads in good condition. Wooden handle is a little loose but in pretty good condition. Can't find much info on Stanley axes. What can you guys share? Did the gamble pay off or is it junk? Thanks for any info.

I would say you're probably OK -- even junk hatchets cost more than $10 around here.
try soaking the head/handle in some BLO and see if that doesn't tighten up the fit.
if not, add a wedge.
enjoy and good luck.

Nice to hear I may have got a good deal. I will post pics tomorrow when home. Thx.

Posting pics will have to wait a bit due to tech difficulties. Thx for any info on the company though and I will post some pics ASAP.

Finally!!

Sorry for wait.

Hopefully the pics worked and you guys can help me out with any info. Is it in fact Made in USA? Quality? What do you think of condition? Sand? Sharpen? Oil? Thanks.

sorry - I have no clue as to where it was built, but I'd sharpen it, sand the handle a bit then oil it, and use it.

Thx 1066vik. What is that BLO you recomended that I use to tighten the handle?
