I was working on a custom order when I thought I would parallel the build something else kinda custom. Soooo .. thought I'd try a new kind of carving w/multiple dying levels. I'm aware it's not super clean/perfect, my work seldom is .. but I would like to get some feedback on stepping outside the norms of a standard sheath with a 'theme'.

Hmmm, although I do think it is neat, I'm not sure I personally like the combo. I wouldn't carry it. Don't get me wrong, I like the Star Trek movies. But bushcraft and Star Trek are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

All I can think of is - I like olives (I'm half Sicilian) and I like ice cream. But I am NOT putting olives in my ice cream. :)

The finish on the sheath looks really nice though.

lol .. yeah, I totally get your analogy.

You got my hopes up.

I thought I was going to see the first Fiddleback Mek'leth or perhaps a D'k tahg.

Cool looking sheath, I like the nice deep black finish.
But it just doesn't blend old school with Trek.

Think of Picard taking out Borg on the holo-deck while wearing a tux using a Thompson Sub-machine gun.
Classy, yet awesome sci-fy.

Don't know what to tell you.

BTW, I don't think any Klingon weapon would be good for bushcraft. Just sayin'.

I appreciate the feedback from both of you, seriously I do .. but you guys seemed to focus on this above idea and how a knife and sci-fy dont work together. Not really the point of the thread. You do realize some people dont carry a fixed blade exclusively for the art of Bushcrafting, right? The idea was to 'theme' a sheath - really no different than when I carve the spider on one, is to appeal so a specific 'genre' of someone's eclectic background or likes. The spider silhouette makes for a correlation to the Fiddleback brand cause it's actually that of a Brown Recluse aka a Fiddleback. While I chose the Star Trek artwork to show here .. it could have been a Captain America shield, a Chinese character, or some commonly used pop culture clip art ..

What I was initially asking and maybe I didnt present it correctly, is there more common appeal/request for a personalized theme sheath?

Knowing that your willing to expand your custom work to that extent is prety neat. I like the quality of the work and I am sure some trekkie would wear that on his belt. Just as I am sure a captain america fan would like the stars and stripes on one as well. Trick is getting you and those fans together.it would defiantly be good to put on a custom worked web page showing your creativity I would think.

There was a time back in the seventies, when I was still just a kid being pissed off at all of the adults crowding up the trekky conventions, that I would have totally dug this sheath with like a tuxedp dagger-ground shank or something. Still impressed with the work though, and it gives me ideas for possible sheath engravings I might like.

Thank you .. and the trick of making your work appealing to more than just one other person IS the trick. My wife is an entrepreneur and every time I show her something I created (I have an art background), she goes a little bit into 'how can we produce 10,000 units of that and sell it!!' .. and I say, I guess you like it, and go back to my cave. :)

I like the concept a lot. You made a sheath for me with the middle panel blank, but a skull would have been nice for me too. Maybe you can offer up something to your prospective buyers. I'm not too interested in spiders, but Spiderman I am. Also, I'm an old school Trekkie, so I thought it was cool too.

Hiregun .. I'd already drawn out a couple of skull concepts but have yet to carve one. Think I'll try that next. Spiderman would be cool .. and I just picked up some blue dye. Dragoncon is huge here and this is a knife friendly state .. so I'll probably wear this one to the con.

I think it would be a neat idea. Not sure your thinking of taking it further and doing requests of specific things, but that would be sweet too. For instance, I have a small cottage shop and my logo is relatively straight forward. If you offered an up charge to put my logo on a sheath, I would definitely pay extra for something like that.

bonafide,

If Fiddleback Friday goes down like I want it to tomorrow, I may have to commission you again for another sheath but with a skull! I'd love to see your skull concepts/drawings.

Your sheath reminds me of Flash Gordon. That would be a cool sheath. Same colors just with the Flash Gordon ringed planet and lightening bolt logo.

I like you Mr. Duder I think we could hang out!:D:thumbup:

I think it's great; it even matches the knife (not that anyone noticed)...many other applications that I can think of and a great way to personalize one's interests...

They're just kinda generic .. from the Punisher skull to a plain type of dios los muertos. I'm keeping it more towards a silhouette as that's the easier to carve and not jack it up.

Chicago Bulls logo would be better for me, always preferred Star Wars as a kid:D

The Recluse dangler sheath is sweet btw ;)
