Starbenza Questions

I just picked up a small micarta insingo and love it so much, that of course I had to get a large..

I didn't really want micarta on the large, but I just kind of thought the large Ti handle slabs on the large were a bit plain. I really like the texture/grip of the sandblast, so most of the unique graphics are out for me. Then a nice Starbenza popped up on the Exchange. This seemed like the best option for what I was looking for - sand blasted Ti with a very simple graphic which could possibly enhance grip.

I don't know a lot about these, so I did some searching and found some conflicting info. I was hoping you could help me sort out a couple of questions:

  • Is the Starbenza made (in whole) by Chris Reeve?
  • Is there a different pivot/action for the Starbenza vs. the standard Sebenza?
  • Are the blade dimensions/thickness the same as the standard Sebenza?

Lastly - thoughts about the Starbenza from those that have had both the Wilson Combat version and the large Sebenza?

Thanks in advance!

Oh yeah - and here's my newest CRK:

They are 100% CRK knives exactly like any large plain Sebenza EXCEPT... for the starburst pattern on the scales. That makes it unique to Wilson Combat. It's their starburst pattern that CRK works into the Ti slabs. Other than that, I believe that it's a standard plain Sebenza (large or small). I haven't heard anything about changes in the knife's specs for WC.

Personally, I really like the WC Starbenzas. I've had both sizes. If I ever get another large Sebenza, it'll be a WC variant. I prefer them to the micarta large Sebenzas even though I like the micarta smalls better than the plain or WC small ones.

I have a large lefty Starbenza and am a big fan.

As far as I know, it's identical to the current spec. Large Sebenza except for the starburst on the scales.

It's an exclusive for Wilson Combat, just as the CF is an exclusive for KnifeArt and so forth. The star patter on the WC is cool as hell and does provide more grip.
My only opinion about both, yes I have both in the 25, is that they're great and since I couldn't choose just one, I got both.

Thanks for the info guys. It's great to know these are 100% CRK manufactured Sebenzas, but with the WC starburst graphic.

Any feedback on the comfort of these handles vs. the standard PJ grips? I wouldn't think these would be anything more than a little grippier than the standard handles, but just wanted to check.

I've got the Wilson Umnumzaan and it is very grippy and comfortable to use. The seb is probably the same!

Like others have said it has the pattern on the scales. It also comes with double lugs, a Wilson combat bead on the lanyard and the name on the pocket clip

Yes, the pattern does add some "grip" to the knife without being aggressive the way textured G10 is.
