Got a couple of Titanium Spikes 6" long ($3.50.ech) from a hiking store on the way to Mammoth. Always wanted to keep it in my pocket without puncturing my own package. A Starbucks straw with a little altering fits perfect ... what do you think? Weighs nothing!

Or staking down a tent ... you never know when you might have a sudden need for a couple of extra tent stakes ... the wind can pick up unexpectedly....

Ingenious, Ryan!

Parenthetically, isn't it amazing what's available in Ti these days and how cheap it can be?

That might protect you from casual pokes, but if the top of that spike ever catches on something that straw isn't going to slow it down is it? I'm not trying to cause you grief, I just don't want you to sit down and get a painful surprise!

I need a carbon fiber or rubberized substitute ... I think my package is more important, might just keep for running for now.

Hey Ryan, very cool. Do you know how I can get my hands on some of those spikes? Got some tent retention issues to take care of... :D

I put in an order with this company today for some more ... (Free Shipping) So I will let you know how it goes. (3) Spikes for $12.

Cool! Thanks!

Edited to add: I just ordered a couple of packs, I just love Ti stuff (as do most here).

Here's a couple of other toys that I've been meaning to pick up, but haven't gotten to: Titanium Ice Pick and Titanium Crowbar

Hi Guys,

I followed the link, I just love the Vargo stuff is neat, I would love to get some test report from someone who actually uses the Vargo mini alcohol stove.

Hi guys,

Is there somebody who can send me 2 of the Titanium tent pegs for a regular Glowring? I have most colors.

Postage to the Netherlands could not be more then $1.80 for a small padded envelope with the taped together and the sharp end covered in some carton + duc tape tent pegs and that's by US Post Office Airmail.

I really would also like to get the VArgo alcohol burner and the cook pot and could pay with POayPal in a week or two.
The store mentioned (backpackinglight.... doesn't accept foreign credit card order  long live the plastic money :grumpy:

Bagheera, I'd be happy to help. My Hotmail account isn't working, so just PM me if you haven't made other arrangements.

PS the site mentioned above says they are out of stock right now....but several other sites seem to have them and the stove, too.

Regards,

John

Hello John G,

Sorry for the time delay, we're 6-9 hours later over here in Holland so I was sleeping.

John, I tried to PM but I'm just a "registered User" so I don't seem to be able to PM  that's a first for me.

John, please if you are able send an email to:

phenskens@hotmail.com

I will answer you any way possible, if you're surcribed to i.e. another forum that allows me to pm we could try that.

We still have a number of regular (latest model) glowrings left.

Hope to hear from you, best Scouting wishes from Holland,

Piet (Bagheera)

That is a neat thing but i wouldn't dare carry it on me unless it's in a plastic or metal container. I have this paranoia about sharp things poking me if i accidentally trip or something like that. I somehow think that covering it with a straw wouldn't really offer any extra protection from that.
