Starmate (2012) question

So I got a new Starmate a few days ago. It's a great knife. Love the way it feels in hand, love the design, but I noticed something kind of weird about it. I first noticed it had a stiff pivot as soon as I pulled it out of the box. I worked opened and closed a lot over the course of two days and then last night I decided to lubricate the pivot. After that it was very apparent the potential smoothness off this folder. It was beautiful. Blade flicked open with the utmost ease. But then something strange also became apparent. The detent when closed became almost non-existent. As if the blade almost falls open when closed with just a little wiggle of handle. I don't know if maybe the lube made its way into the detent hole or what... Any ideas or suggestions from the knowledgeable folks here. Thanks in advance. Cheers.

Is the ball still there? I'm wondering if it was stiff due to a misaligned ball in the detent, then that ball fell out after you lubed it.

I would recommend tightening down the pivot a bit to keep it from falling out.

Especially if you are using tip-up pocket clip carry.

It would also be a good idea to check and see if all of the handle screws are completely tightened down too.

This is good advice. The pivot bolt is adjustable for a reason. Not everyone likes the same tension, and has differing views on how they define "tight" or "loose" in a folder. Adjust it to the point where you are comfortable and enjoy your knife.

Yeah that's exactly what I ended up doing. I've got it at just the right tension of good blade retention and ease of blade deployment. Thanks fellas. The knife is great. Just a little hickup. Thanks again.
