Starmate blade stop pin?

Looking at the Starmate's blade stop pin I realised that the stop pin is not secured by a screw but is apperently only recessed in the scales. I am wondering about the reason for this. Surely it can not be that strong. As far as I remember the Military's blade stop pin is secured by a screw (I dont have it with me so I can't check to make sure) - this surely is a much more durable way of attaching the stop pin than merely recessing it in the scales. Am I missing something here?

I dont really think that the pin needs to be screwed in. It is just there to stop the blade. There is no real hard force acting on the pin. However, i think i would rather see it screwed in. This is just my opinion--i could be wrong.

It's VERY tightly press-fitted. I wouldn't worry about it - it's also braced on the right (clip) side by the liner for about 80% of its diameter. I'd rather it were screwed in only because this would make disassembly slightly easier, but I'm sure it's plenty strong.

Only NOW saw that bit of detail myself! And I was wrist-flicking the blade open all the time! That might be a bit dangerous on the Starmate in THIS configuration...

Any idea what force that stop pin can handle. Sal? (BTW, where's Sal and Michelle these days? I've not seen them posting the past week or so... I think I saw ONE post from Sal...?)

Heyns - sal here. Have been tied up for a couple of days though.

We are working on the Y2K dealer catalog and SHOT Show prep. All of the small details that have to be refined before printing.

Essentially, It's Michelle's reponsibility to get the dealers the best catalog for their needs. Forum is fun, and interesting but we have to work too.

Re: the stop pin. Should be plenty strong enough. The major problem with stop pins is not so much strength as hardness. If the pin deforms, play is developed. Unless hardened screws are used, the screws deform. Ultimately, the strength lies in the hole that the screw goes through. Nesting the pin in the hole is acutally stronger. With the Military, we do both (screws and nesting).
