Kmj - I've noticed some folks calling the washers bushings. I guess it is another term for the same thing
Nope...just common ignorance. If you know the true meaning of that word it's not an insult. It just means a person not educated on certain things.
Know what BOBCAT heavy equipment is? It's not the little machine. The little machines that everyone calls a bobcat...is actually a Skid-Steer.
What do you blow your nose with? Kleenex or facial tissue? Kleenex is just a brand too. It's just so common for the average Joe to hear these terms and by being ignorant they don't know the true meaning.
Anyway...
washer [wosh-er, waw-sher]
—noun
1. a person or thing that washes. 2. washing machine. 3. a flat ring or perforated piece of leather, rubber, metal, etc., used to give tightness to a joint, to prevent leakage, to distribute pressure, etc., as under the head of a nut or bolt.
bushing [boo sh-ing]
—noun
1. Elect. a lining for a hole, intended to insulate and protect from abrasion one or more conductors that pass through it. 2. Mach. a. a replaceable thin tube or sleeve, usually of bronze, mounted in a case or housing as a bearing. b. a replaceable hardened steel tube used as a guide for various tools or parts, as a drill or valve rod.
So again. Being ignorant is just having a common misconception about something. Not an insult.
