Starmate modification needed

Is anyone still relieving the left side of the Starmate to make it more lefty friendly? Thanks and take care.

I'm not sure what you mean, but I added a choil on the liner side, kinda completed the curve started on the handle in front of the liner. I ground the liner and the G-10 and now there is a decent choil there to help keep the finger from accidentally riding up on the blade on hard thrusts.
One of the other Forumites (Corduroy, I believe), did this on the Military with great results. I did this on my Military also, and I can attest to the fact that it is a modification that is well worth the effort. The way they come out of the box is already great, but this modification turns them into something special. You'll feel the difference and you'll appreciate the way the knife feels in your hand. Since I did this to mine, my Military and Starmate see more pocket time than any of the other knives in my current rotation.
Do a search on the Military and I think you'll find it from several months ago, I do believe.
Good Luck!

If it's stupid but works, then it isn't stupid!

Corduroy was doing the modification. I would ask him if he still is.

Yes, it would be nice idea to make a cutout in STARMATE's opposite scale; maybe it could be a little shallower than in front scale but it could improve two things:
* opening hole would be available better for left hand;
* grip comfort and safety would be improved also.
I signalized this idea to SPYDERCO about half year ago testing STARMATE but I'm too poor bladesmith to do it myself.
Maybe it would require the slight pocket-clip reshaping.

Corduroy gave me a cut out on the left side, brought the liner down to match, and textured the liner. He also slightly widened the Spyder hole and chamfered the edges. Me likes!

Unfortunately, Drew is currently very busy with "real" work, without access to a computer or e-mail. His backlog, if he's taking new work, is presumably huge. I'm in there, last hearing from him around Thanksgiving. Gonna be a sweet AFCK if he ever can do the work...

It looks really COOL!
I would like to do the same modification on mine, it's exactly what I had in mind.

Hmmm... looks very clean. Curious though, the folder does require disassembly prior to reworking, no? How is the thong hole/ liner removed from the entire unit??

Nakano - We just rotate the scales about the lanyard pipe without removing it.
