Considering a Starmate. Checked out the obligatory reviews, some good others not. Always interested in the Centofonte, not sure that is in production anymore. Thoughts and opinions would be most appreciated. I just acquired a GB Folder, very happy w\ it and plan on a Valloton sub hilt as well as the Centofonte, especially if it is indeed disco`ed. Should I forget the Starmate?

Thanks in advance.

Don't know about the Starmate much. I don't have one, but I think if you get a newer one, it shouldn't have as many problems as you may have ran across in reviews. The Centofante on the other hand I can personally recommend. The 3 is not discontinued, the 4 is. The difference being the blade shape. I love the Centofante, it is very thin, light, slim and comfortable in the hand. I would take a Centofante over a Delica every time. It has the best action of any back lock I have, and it seems I am not the only one who has that experience. Price between the two is very different and I would say that after getting a GB, it might be hard to exceed that.

The Starmate is the only model that I'm interested in getting. I've got PM2's and a Military, and a Vallotton, oh and several versions of Manix.

The design of the Vallotton is very unique and they are produced to a high level of quality.

I like the Starmate a lot. I removed the lanyard tube and dremmeled that part of the blade that everyone (myself included) bleated about. In my mind a better option than a Military (I have both) because it has (in my mind) a more robust tip. As soon as you are using 4mm blade stock, the knife is going to take a bit more of a pounding. Action is smooth, ergos are good and my Sharpmaker and I have spent lots of time with VG10. I like. Much prefer it to some of the other so called "hard use" folders in the same price range.

Very different knife is the Cento 3 (2mm blade stock). For the money, worth every cent you pay for it. Mine is my BBQ knife, slices like crazy and if anyone does use it and cuts on surfaces that damages the blade, it's no problem to touch up. I have a Cento 3 and 4 and much prefer the 3.

I cannot speak for the Sub Hilt, it is not on my radar at all - too heavy and I'm not sure I like the looks of it. The grind, from the bit of reading I have done, is very steep and not my cup of tea.

I like my Starmate. The first one is a classic and so is this version. I've played with the vallaton, the starmate is a better EDC. It has a good detent but opens like it had ball bearings. Nice thick blade with theedge ~30 degrees. No fit/finish problems.

Thanks for the input fellas. Looks like I'll leave it on the list. I love the blade/handle shape, the ratio and the size.

The Centofonte, both 3 and 4, now that I got the skinny on those. And the Vallotton for sure, not the best carry but, so badass...everthing coming out of that factory is of outstanding quality.

I got one when they came out in the VG10 sprint. I really liked the knife, the fit and finish was very nice. Very smooth opening and closing, strong lock up, and centered blade. The price was a bit higher than I wanted to pay, but I really did like it that much. What would have made it much better for me if it had a ZDP blade, instead of VG10. The ricasso had some weird chip or unfinished section, but I looked past it, but looking at it again I might have waited on buying it if I had it to do all over.
