StarMate Pivot Stiffness

Sal,

My StarMate seems extraordinarily stiff to open. I realize that the blade geometry on the Military makes it quicker to open (less of an arc), but it is SO smooth and quick; my StarMate feels like a cheap hardware store knife in comparison. I recall seeing something here about not messing with the torx pivot screw; is it okay to loosen that screw a bit in an attempt to lighten up the force required to open the knife?

BTW, you got hosed on the new phone system for SFO. I could not get through on any of the #s yesterday. The Customer Service operator said she couldn't get through either.

yes, it is ok to loosen that screw. You should read that starmate review. It tells you what size torx driver you need to do so.

Torx 15 !

And my Starmate is like a feather in the wind of the Great Spirit...

Cheers,

JM

You can make a slurry of fine valve grinding compound and oil and work the blade.Don`t over do this!Clean well.I used a solvent hose at a shop on a Buck and a Gerber.Use red and yellow jewler`s rouge to finish.I then engine turned them with a drill press and a #2 pencil erasor with valve compound. The rouge is a lot of time.

Steve - should be OK to loosen the pivot some. Try not it take it apart though. re adjustment takes a special tool.
