Hi!

Many guys seem to think that Starmate is 'tactical'. As I'm not at all familiar with tactical knives... what makes a knife tactical? Why is Starmate tactical? Is it the size? Handle? The (ugliest part of Starmate) top swedge? The blade geometry (which is much closer to puukko than most of the other Spydercos and afaik nobody thinks that puukko is tactical... well except maybe the Sissipuukko

)?

To me, it's one of the best looking Spydercos, and probably the best all around knife.

Harri.

Hi Harri!

Black G-10 scales, onehand-operation and a somewhat agressive blade make it look a bit of a tactical. No fancy decorations and of corse it's designer (reputaion of him) Bob T.

Excellent question. Let me clarify my position. Anything can be tactical, it is all in how you use it. A screwdriver can be "tactical" but it was not originally made for such a use. I believe the Starmate is more defense oriented while the Military is more utility oriented. This doesnt mean that either knife cant do either one. The Starmate would be better at piercing and slashing than the Military. Both are great knives. The just have different characteristics. The quality on both are about the same. The are made with the same materials. Read Dexter's review of the Century Starfighter (the influence for the Starmate) on the forums knowledge base.
