Starmates -- Where Are You?

Can anyone please tell me where I can find a Starmate for sale? I prefer new, but no one seems to have any on hand. Come on guys let the rest of us have some fun too.

I just sold one ( serial # 015 ) last week. I should have had my butt kicked for selling it too! They are hard to find, especially with low serial #'s.

Last week I cheked all around and finally found one dealer (internet) that had one . I ordered it. Will see if it arrives or I get a "sorry, back ordered" message or somethng.

I herd some disturbing news from one dealer. They said Spyderco is or may implement a no sales to internet dealers policy effective Oct 1999. They may also sale only to the mega distributors of Spyderco products.

If that is true, along with their recent pricing policy, and it forces prices up due to the lack of competetion, there will be a lot of unhappy "ELU'S".

I cannot imagine a progressive company not using the internet as a major sales avenue, so I won't believe it unless Spyderco says so, or it materializes.
 
Ron1, that's very disturbing news indeed! I hope someone over at Spyderco can respond and clear the air of mystery surrounding this once and for all..

Spyderco does not have any pricing policies, but we do have an advertising policy. We do enforce our advertising policy.

We're not planning on going to mega distributors, probably more the other way.

We do sell to internet dealers, as long as they adhere to our advertising posicies. We are however entering the internet slowly to learn and possibly avoid or solve problems before they become large.

I Sold it, then got offered much more than that for it before I could even put it in a package and send it to him! That's when my "Dark Side" tedancies started showin' .

Joyce told me an interesting story about the Starmate. A European writer had one to test for a magazine. They had a pizza delivered and he used the Starmate to cut out the pie slices. He cut through the pizza, the cardboard under the pizza and the kitchen table has a nice imprint of the pizza slices.

Sal, I won't even doubt that story since I know first-hand how sharp the Starmate is. I just got mine delivered (w/ a high number of 673) at the same time as my BF Native. The new Military I ordered came in a day later, too. The first Mili is already set up on the display rack as well.

I guess I got all of Spyderco's 440V knife models, hehe..

And I LOVE 'EM!!! Sharp as heck! Retested everything and the 440V steel held it's edge, and then some!

I received my smooth edge Starmate today. It is exactly what I wanted - a top quality heavy duty folder without being heavy in weight!

Excellent design and superb execution in construction. And, of course, it is Spyderco
shaving sharp.

Great handle comfort for me in all positions held.

Cut some sucker bushes in the back yard just to try it out. Hope to use it day to day and heavily this hunting season.

You ought to be living in Sweden. We always get the Spydies months before you do... The Starmate´s been warming the shelves for some time now...
 
DannyC - glad to hear that.

Pelle - Out distributor in Sweden (Ake & Siw Lyden) is very "on top of it" when it comes to Spyderco. they were also the first Spyderco Distributor in Europe. Ake came to seek us out in Golden when we were very small.
