My last Spyderco was a Gen1 Clipit Delica and now i have a Gen 4. My new Manbug has stamped tang and the Delica is so precise it appears lased deep. This is something in the last year or so?

Unrelated but inconsistant jobbed out hardware used by Sakai seems to be an issue both as to quality and even diameter/pitch at times. Already having to deal with a partially formed shallow screw head stripping out and reputable vendor guaranteed fit screws for the D4 a shade too small.

Was even suggested by screw vendor i might have a forgery but complete detail strip ( done to make sure unexpected stiff opening not caused by mislocated or missing washers/NOT, and smoothed right up after a couple of weeks) shows fine workmanship, superb blade grind and truly razor sharp edge, and if a forgery, i want more.

I am amazed at current beefiness of blade but razor edge, and the incredible flatness of the knife with clip removed, very pleasing as i was wanting something nearly as invisible to self as the Manbug/Ladybug line which i consider about the best knife on the planet for western society living, totally invisible to carrier until needed.....and the superflat but securely graspable Delica is just incredible....there is a lot of sharp edgedness to the design such as open edges of scales and blade hole, but on a knife this flat are showing themselves plus marks for hold and security when manipulating....i just adore the knife....unlike costlier knives owned which get to be a drag by the end of the day, this one then goes in robe pocket.

Starting to look like i'll have to wait for Mr Spyderco hisself to answer this one.....

Or, if not Sal himself, at least someone from Spyderco. The most that any regular user could say for certain is something along the lines of "I have a Delica with a date code of AA on the box, and the tang markings appear to be stamped" or "I have a Delica with a date code of BB on the box, and the tang markings appear to be laser engraved". Last Delica I bought was 7-8 years ago, so I'm sure its date code would be of no help.

As for the "hardware issue", I expect Spyderco's response might be their contention that they use screw construction to make factory assembly easier, not to promote user disassembly, which they discourage.

Well, i can easily check with knowledgeable collectors and get a ballpark idea about many knife traits and when they appeared and on many brands, and do not see why this brand need wait for someone from factory...i am not the only person in the world who notices changes.

I would think you are entirely correct as for the ease of assembly hardware thing except if overpolished or inconsistant hardware gives the buyer a headache, what must be going on at the factory for workers?....a look into the subject shows a blizzard of headaches for folk and to point Spyderco even markets a kit of all matching hardware to get around variables which might bite....and overmolded scales over liners and rivets seem "easier" except in ease of color and blade change for various versions and recycling of those which flop.

But totally agree on disassembly not really in the plans....most folk do not know this but most specialty assembly hardware is designed for one purpose....to prevent over-torque at install and to strip out before too much torque can be applied but also to hang in there well enough for assembly with as few a failures as possible, and no real plans to disassemble except warranty minority repairs and where they have problem hardware tools handy....various industries and then buyers then misapply the hardware to various uses and one has a real headache.
