Hello
I have made about 5 knives now, all from edger blades that I get at Home Depot. I don't know anything about the material. Is anyone familier with edger blades and what they are made from?

Hey rimshot, welcome aboard. sry, i don't really know what an edger blade would be made out of, but i saw your name and immediately thought "drummer"....?

Hi Alex
Yeh, I am a drummer. That's pretty cool you noticed. Are you a musician?

Probably the same as lawn mower blade, some OK, some not.

You can buy good carbon steel for about the same price, although not at Home Depot.

Another drummer here, I played with a local band called Snowblind in the early 80's and "Tough Guys Dont Dance" in the early 90's. I was in rock bands but I was still to ugly to get Chicks. Go figure.:jerkit:

I bet you buy brand name drums and sticks because you can rely on their quality and sound.Buy your steel the same way.Get known steel from a good supplier.Edger blades are very good for edging sidewalks. They usually are poor for knives. Get some O-1,5160,or 1075.
