Bill said today that Yangdu would tackle the project. The price is going to be $150.00 because according to Yangdu there's no guarantee the lazy kamis will do the job like we want it done to warrant the $175.00 price tag for an extra good job.:)
Bill/Yangdu will have two prototypes done,
When they're finished one will be sent to Dan Koster and the other to me.
I figure two viewpoints will be better than one and what works for me or Dan might not work for the other so we will have an accurate accounting of the khukuri.
Hopefully the first ones will be as desired and we can give an okay to the project, if not hopefully Bill and Yangdu will be willing to have a couple more prototypes made.
I want these done to our specs!

special pre-paid run of the Foxy Folly in a 17" length with a 4-1/2" long handle from top of angle on bolster to bottom of buttcap, standard karda and chakma, wood handles, steel mounted, no habaki bolsters, no cho creep, 24 to 28 ounces in weight, and fat convexed edges, and well oiled before shipment.

So start saving your money if you haven't already got it. Time will be getting short before you know it!
When/if the prototypes are approved then I'll post the current sign up list and you can check your options then.

Whooopppeeeee!!!!:D  :D

Sorry about the bold print at the bottom. I cut and pasted the specs from a draft in my email and it won't quit printing in it. :grumpy:

Edit:
Upon approval of the prototypes either I or Dan will post where and when to send the money. We're working together to bring this to fruition.

Yvsa,

Wonder if they have a scale over there in Nepal? To me that's the most important aspect. Almost all of HI's really nice models are too heavy.

Not sure Tsimi, guess we'll find out. The specs say 24-28 oz.

Does anyone have a link to a picture of this proposed khuk?

Thanks!!

Rob :)
Here you go Uwinv. This is the original, they were about 20"-22" oal and heavy. The 17" ought to be a perfect khukuri, if the kamis will do it right.:D

Maybe Yangdu could tell them to make them the same weight as the Bura BGRS and that might get thru what we are looking for.

I'll buy them the scale, if it will help. I want this to turn out right, too.

The original (posted by Yvsa above) is one of the most beautiful blades that I own, but I rarely reach for it except to polish it. Too darn heavy, even for me (6' 3", 210 lb, relatively ugly).

Very glad you got the go-ahead, Yvsa. You've certainly waited long enough for this.

Or tell them to start with the same bar of steel they'd use for a 17-18" sirupati and to make those fullers functional! ;)

Only problem is what the kami hears after translation:

"Make it just like the BGRS"

And then the questions start coming......:(

Glad to be on board, Yvsa. We'll sure put it to the test. Fit/finish, weight, length, construction, looks, performance, etc.

Aardvark,

What about some feedback on that baby BGRS you got. Didn't you get the 15" er?? Impressions??
Yeah, I got it, HD. What we also got was RAIN and HOLIDAYS. Between the two of them, and helping my son make his first knife handle, that fell by the wayside. I still have it on my 'reminders', though. Sorry.

I can post impressions tonight, but I'd rather wait (they're all positive, anyway, and everyone has heard them before.)

Excellent idea! Glad to see that this project is finally getting the go ahead.
