Startac or Large 21 Micarta Insingo

I plan on purchasing one of these blades tonight. I was torn between these two or an XM-18, but I can't come to terms with the Hinderer prices so I'm going with a CRK. This will be an EDC paired up with a Manix 2 XL most of the time. I had a plain jane Large 21 as well as a Startac before, but sold them without using them to fund other purchases. I was considering a Large 21 CF Insingo, but I dislike the blue hardware and I'm not too sure about a full carbon fiber scale. So now I'm to the point where the funds are ready, but I cannot decide on either one of these. I am sure at some point I will get both, but one of these ladies will have to tide me over for now. As stated this will see EDC use, some light work around the farm, and maybe field dress a couple deer at some point. What would you guys choose?

I'm not a fan of the Insingo blade shape, so the Startac would be my choice. But I'd be remiss if I didn't ask whether you took a look at the ZT 0562CF when you were thinking about an XM-18. From what I gather, the 0562CF is a very close cousin of the 3.5" XM-18 Flipper/Slicer Grind at a fraction of the cost of the Hinderer.

I have considered it, but I wanted to invest in a higher quality folder at this time. I may end up getting one someday, but right now I'd like to grab a CRK.

You are a man after my own heart. I have both and if you threw the 25 into the mix I would pick the 25 plain or Micarta only because I carry the 25 the most of these three knives. Between the Startac and the 21 Micarta Insingo, I like the Startac a lot, to me it is very unique, I love the scales and the blade shape and I find the ergonomics very good for my hand however ... I tend to use it less because it is so pretty, the Micarta 21 is a knife I use. Hope that wasn't to ambiguous :)

I understand completely. :) The other thing I'd bring to your attention are the Knifeart Exclusive 21s in Carbon Fiber. I've got a Small 21 CF and it's a dream to carry. If I were going to buy a large, it would definitely be another CF. At 3.7 ounces, the Large CFs are heavyweight knives in lightweight packages.

I was really considering a Large 21 CF, but decided to pursue it later on. It is still very tempting though but I would have to remove the blue anodizing as I really dislike blue. I keep going back and forth between the Startac and the Insingo. I am leaning more towards the Large 21 Micarta Insingo more now though as I found a dealer who has one with double silver thumb lugs in stock.

Being left handed, I prefer the double lugs, got a 21 micarta from TNK with double lugs and loved it for about a week until they got a LH 21 micarta in and I jumped on that one also. Darn the luck, you made a good choice and you'll enjoy it!!!!
