A couple of years ago (before I discovered the Forums) I picked up a "Chinese broad sword". It turned out it was a flat piece of "spring steel". Do distal taper, no edge bevel, as heavy as BOTH of my 25" sirupatis put together. So I realized I don't have a good machete. My Mom's house has a ton of ivy and I could use a good machete. So my eyes alighted on this "sword" and my Dremel. Hmmm. I taped up the blade, sketched out rough blade shape and attacked it with the cut-off wheel. I haven't yet freed the blade-to-be, something to do with sparks in the bedroom making the Mrs. nervous. Women:rolleyes: ;) Hey, she married me. I'm going to make the handle out of a piece of the maple tree or maybe one of the avaccado trees. I don't have a bench grinder but if I'm patient I may just get a useable machete out of it. We shall see if fortune favors the foolish.

Way to go! The hard and frustration laden route you have chosen leads to much glory and satisfaction! Whether you get there is another story!

Have fun with your project.
